What People Say about Capitol Hill Day SchoolCharcoal

Speaking of Program...

Current Parent:  "We continue to be impressed with Capitol Hill Day School's emphasis on creative thinking, exposure to art, music, and field trips around Washington, DC, as well as its warmth and genuine sense of community.  But more importantly, we feel that our daughter will greatly benefit from the Day School's flexible curriculum that strives to foster each child's individual strengths and recognizes their unique qualities."

Visitor from The Washington Post:  "I was, and still am, very impressed with CHDS.  The facility is beautiful and truly seems to inspire learning and creative thinking.  Every student I saw seemed genuinely excited to be in school!  I can certainly understand why The Post recently mentioned CHDS as one of the best DC-area Middle Schools."

Science Tests

Current Parent:  "The school's educational opportunities and the resources by far outshine other schools (our son) could attend.  We are particularly impressed by the school's low student-teacher ratio, its field education, and its philosophy of helping children become thoughtful and caring young people as they learn.  We've witnessed firsthand how these values have benefited friends' children who have attended the school."

Current Parent:  "It's clear that children not only learn the basics, but they also learn to be analytical, artistic, and conscientious citizens -- and that's what we're looking for in a school."

Speaking of Community...Yvette and Javier

Current Parent from NW Washington:  "CHDS has small class sizes allowing for a nurturing environment and strong relationships to develop between and among the children, parents and teachers, thereby creating a close-knit community dedicated to providing a quality education and social environment.  This community atmosphere is enhanced by the continuity that CHDS offers by covering grade PreK all the way to grade eight.  It is also important to us that CHDS recognizes that it is part of the larger community of Washington and takes full advantage of the resources that this provides.  CHDS's commitment to weekly field trips recognizes the unique opportunity students and teachers in this city have to learn more about this fascinating city and the world beyond it through first hand experience."

Current Parent:  "Capitol Hill Day School has strong academics, but it also instills in its students a robust sense of community, of compassion, and of understanding for others."

Current Parent from Capitol Hill:  "Our family has made great friends through the Day School, and deepened our connections to the community.  Hands Up Climbing WallWe are confident that our daughter is spending each school day in a caring, nurturing, and challenging environment.  The school and her teachers are helping her to grow as a person as well as a student."

Current Parent from Prince George's County:  "We were looking for a diverse, nurturing educational environment for our children.  We were most impressed by the richness of the curriculum which included field education, art and music (all of which are missing from public schools and other independent schools in the county).  We were also impressed with the holistic approach to educating children and the many hands-on ways to enrich the children's learning experience even at the pre-kindergarten level.  We saw the PreK books made by the students, the opportunities to learn shared responsibility for their environment at such a young age, both in the classroom and community.  Lastly, what truly won us over was a visit to the school and seeing the little red school building in action for ourselves -- the quaint, yet lively classrooms with enthusiastic teachers and kids.  We knew then that CHDS was a trustworthy environment in which our kids could learn and grow."

Speaking of Diversity...

CHDS CrowdApplicant Parent:  "We are delighted to see diversity in the school's population.  This promotes a true reflection of the greater society.  It is our belief, that if one is exposed to diversity early on they see and appreciate the commonality of all people and understand that we are all enriched by our differences.  With this as a foundation, we believe (our daughter) is better equipped to understand complex issues related to diversity in the future."

Alumna:  "We all took it for granted that everyone learns differently, everyone has different backgrounds, and everyone has something important to offer.  Differences were something we celebrated, but so was connecting with each other over things we had in common."

 Speaking of Location...

Current Parent from Prince George's County:   "The school is close to where I work; I can make it there in 5 minutes in an emergency, or to attend meetings, or visit the classroom.  I enjoy the time spent commuting with my kids.  PreK Grinding CornI love that our son spends half of our car ride home talking about his field trips, the insects he's studying, what he's making in art class, and how much fun he and his friends had on the playground."

Applicant Parent:  "We live in Washington D.C.  We are delighted that the school takes advantage of the plethora of museums, theaters and other educational opportunities that it has to offer.  Moreover, we are pleased to see Capitol Hill Day School embrace the sense of community that Capitol Hill families and neighbors task themselves with trying to perpetuate."

Speaking as Graduates...

Alumna (Class of 2004):  "I always felt that my teachers at Capitol Hill Day School miraculously truly liked every single one of us. We had the world's greatest field trip program.  Sofia and AlissaHardly a week went by without our class hopping on the bus going somewhere - dropping by the Smithsonian just to see one thing we had studied or taking a whole day to collect minnows at the arboretum.  After a while, we started thinking that the whole area around Washington was our campus, and it was good to learn that great thinking, great art, great sports, and great music could take place just by using what the world has to offer."

Alumnus (Class of 1988):  "I often think of how CHDS has been the most important influence in my life.  It was a special place and I was lucky to get to go there."

Alumnus (Class of 1983):  "It is awesome to see that what was once a reputation of success has now turned into a legacy of achievement."
