Explanation of Tuition and Fees

Required Fees

A $50 Application Fee is due with the admissions application.

A Refundable Enrollment Deposit of $1,000 per child is due upon submission of the first Enrollment Contract.  The Deposit is refundable when the child leaves the school, assuming

all financial obligations have been met and the contract has not been canceled.

Tuition covers instruction, field education, books and most materials for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.  An overnight trip, special play or event may cost an additional $10 to $15.  No student will be excluded from these occasions for financial reasons.  Contact the Business Manager for further information.

Tuition is due in four equal installments (June 1, September 1, December 1 and March 1) and may be pre-paid at any time.  A ten-month payment plan can be arranged through the business office.  (See enclosed sheet for complete information.)  The obligation to pay the fees for the full academic year is unconditional, with no refunds for absence, withdrawal, or dismissal.  A Tuition Refund Plan is available to enable parents to meet this obligation.  Enrollment may be canceled in writing by 5:00 pm on June 1st.  Upon such cancellation, the Refund Enrollment Deposit shall be forfeited.  (See the Enrollment Contract, last paragraph.)

All payments on all charges not received within 10 days of the due date (the 1st of the month) are subjected to a late charge of one and one-half percent (1 ½ %) per month (or portion thereof) until paid.  The student will be suspended if the account is still delinquent the 45th day following the due date.  After a suspension of two weeks, the student will be expelled from the school.  No transcripts or grades will be released until all financial obligations have been met.  (See the Enrollment Contract for a full policy description.)  There is a $25.00 charge for any check returned by a financial institution unpaid.

Optional Fees

The Tuition Refund Plan covers the family's liability for unpaid tuition if the child leaves the school for any reason after meeting the fourteen day attendance requirement.  (See brochure for complete information.)  While the insurance is, of course, not mandatory, families are encouraged to enroll in the Plan for their financial protection and that of the school.

Donations

The school asks that families consider Capitol Hill Day School a major recipient of their charitable contributions while their children are in the school.  Participation in the Annual Giving Campaign, at any giving level, is expected.  Participation, by volunteering or donation, in the Spring Auction and other fundraising activities is greatly encouraged and appreciated.
