After School Program

The Capitol Hill Day School After School Program (ASP) provides children from 4 to 14 years old an opportunity to be part of a safe and caring place, and to take part in age-appropriate activities, while enjoying the company of friends.  The staff members are committed to creating a happy, peaceful, well-supervised program.

The program operates from 3:10-6:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and on Wednesday from 2:10-6:00 p.m.  Extended hours or full days are offered during parent / teacher conference days, teacher workdays, and spring break.  Extended-day registration information is sent home  via the Tuesday News Notes (the School's weekly on-line newsletter) prior to each extended-day program.  Space is limited for extended-day programs, so priority is given to full-time ASP attendees, and prompt registration for all children is recommended.

Financial aid for full-time students in the After School Program is available.  Please contact Jim Woolwine (by email or 202-386-9926) for information.

The ASP is divided into small, age-appropriate groups: Bunnies (prekindergarten and
kindergarten), Juniors (1st through 3rd grades), and Seniors (4th grade and up).

 Bunnies  (Prek & K)
Prekindergarten and kindergarten children meet in the early childhood classrooms. Special care is taken to make our youngest children feel comfortable when the staff and program change at the end of the school day. The program is relaxed, yet supervised, with time for individual as well as group play. There are art and music activities, stories, games and puzzles, outdoor play, and a mid-afternoon snack, as well as optional activities such as tae kwon do and yoga.

 Juniors (Grades 1 -3)
Children in grades one through three gather in the multi-purpose room. They go outside for free play and organized games.  After a mid-afternoon snack, children enjoy craft projects, music, stories, games, drama, and four-square.

 Seniors (Grades 4 - 8)
Young people in grades four through eight meet in the loft. The Seniors program includes organized activities, interest groups, field trips, bowling, computers, sports, art, and a monitored study hall.
