Acknowledgments
I thrive off the regular rhythms of a school year. For me, our calendar, with its ebbs and flows, has a meaningful pattern and cadence. Invariably, the school weeks from September to June are full of joys and challenges, excitement and disappointment. As we navigate the ups and downs, we lean on the strength of our relationships. In a word, it is our community that sustains us and is our binding thread.
As I have shared before, I love the acknowledgments section of a good book. In fact, it is always the first thing I turn to when I pick up a new read. So, in the spirit of my book reading practice, here are my acknowledgments for this year.
Families, thank you for entrusting your children to our care. As many of you know, I have three children of my own. I deeply appreciate what it feels like to release your children to the care of others. Educators thrive off the trust we receive from our families. It is an honor to educate your children, and I am grateful for your partnership.
Families new to us this year, we trust you found Capitol Hill Day School to be a warm and welcoming place. It was a pleasure to support your transition and to build connection and relationship. I am grateful to have you all in our community.
Call me biased, but I have no hesitation in stating that I would put this group of Capitol Hill Day School educators up against any around. They are incredibly thoughtful, dedicated, and creative. I am truly blessed to work with each and every one of my wonderful colleagues. They make me a better school leader.
A huge thanks to our Leadership Team and Admin Staff. Without their support and commitment to our mission, the success of our year would not be possible.
As they near the end of their tenures, I want to again express my sincere gratitude for Danielle and Kathryn. Their impact from curriculum to financial stewardship will without question leave a lasting legacy on our community.
The children in our community surely keep me on my toes. They are eager, engaged, and curious learners. They are kind and generous of spirit. The privilege of my job is that any time I need a break, a pick me up, some inspiration, I head out of my office and wander into any classroom in our School. Your children make me laugh and think; they are simply a joy to teach.
As we close out the school year, I wish you all a wonderful summer. I look forward to seeing many of you at Summer Camp and to greeting returning students with a handshake when we gather again in the fall. Until then, have a restful summer break!
