JOB POSTINGS ON AISGW     BENEFITS & OPPORTUNITIES

Denise Smith

7th and 8th Grade Math Teacher

"For both 7th and 8th grade math, I have semester themes — essentially ongoing project topics. For 7th grade, it's the global water crisis. For 8th grade, it's transportation engineering. These semester themes allow the students to learn about and apply math topics to a real-world topic."

Chris Miller

5th and 6th Grade Science Teacher

"I enjoy the students. The kids value learning, and I frequently have students stay after class to talk about a connection they've made between what we're studying and the broader world. They're a creative and engaged bunch."

Alex Freeman

Early Childhood Teacher

"Last year, we ended up studying flight all year long. It started because children were interested in making paper airplanes.  The project went from learning how to make a paper airplane fly more successfully into learning the parts of a plane and how those parts work together to help a plane fly. By learning about these parts and flight, our paper airplanes began flying well!"

Professional Development at CHDS

2018 Capital Area Progressive Schools (CAPS) Symposium Global Competency Round Table

On May 16, 2018, Capitol Hill Day School hosted a round table discussion on practices for building global competency in our school communities. As part of a school-wide initiative, our professional development group has explored best practices, resources, and curriculum on global competency. This sharing opportunity among faculty at progressive schools strengthened our partnerships and expanded our own practices.

Our Commitment to Social Justice

Capitol Hill Day School is located in a wonderfully complex community and is part of an even more complex world. We are surrounded by neighborhoods that are rich with culture, viewpoints, and experiences. With the goal of engaging students with this abundance of perspectives, Capitol Hill Day School has worked to deepen our ongoing commitment to social justice education. Teachers strive to prepare students to live a productive life of purpose and value, and a large part of succeeding at this goal is building empathy and tolerance towards others — character traits that help students successfully engage in a multicultural, complex world.
