Moving into Farren's Stable
7th and 8th Graders and faculty will begin full use of Farren’s Stable when we return from winter break on Monday, January 7! In anticipation of that, we have planned several transition events:
7th and 8th Grade students will visit Farren’s Stable on both December 11 and 18 to begin to orient themselves to the space.
Parent Open House: After drop off on the morning of December 20, we invite parents to swing by Farren’s Stable for an informal sneak peek.
Final Move: Over the winter break, books and supplies from Dent and the Townhouse (214) will be moved to Farren’s Stable.
Read this month's Gray Matters to learn more about the renovation, and check out recent photos in the slideshow below:

Construction work on our new middle school space at Farren's Stable is in full gear. Demolition is complete, drywall is up, and the wonderful learning spaces are taking shape.
There has been a lot of work on the new secondary staircase. Right now, there is a shaft running from ground level to the CHDS floor. Next "step" - add the stairs!
The project continues on schedule, with full move-in planned for January 2019.
We are excited to be planning "sneak peek" and celebration events in December and January for parents, students, current and former Board members, alumni, and alum parents! Details coming soon!

CHDS signs lease for Farren's Stable!
Dear Capitol Hill Day School Community,
For the past eight months, the Capitol Hill Day School Board and Administration have been hard at work thinking strategically about the School’s facility needs. As an outcome of this effort, we are very excited to announce the signing of a lease for space in the historic Farren’s Stable building at 218 D Street, SE. To learn more about the facility, we invite you to attend an open house at this new site from 5:00-7:00pm on February 7. This event is for adults only, but rest assured that, in due time, students will get to see this exciting new space!
There is a saying in education that “space is the third teacher.” In partnership with architects, the School has a unique opportunity to design a new setting explicitly tailored to enhance our program. Through this project, we are confident we can create an innovative learning environment that will continue to make our pedagogy and curriculum responsive and relevant to the world in which our students live and the future they will inherit.
