Capitol Hill Day School (the “School,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) provides this privacy policy to inform you of how we may collect, use, and share personal information that you provide us through our website at www.chds.org (the “Site”), by sending us e-mail, participating in a survey, completing an on-line form, or by other means.

Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you provide to us directly through the Site, such as by participating in a survey, completing an online form, making a donation, or emailing us.  This information may include, for example, your name, email address, mailing address, payment card information, and any other information you provide in your communication.

We partner with certain third-party services linked from the Site that may also collect personal information from you and share it with us.  For example, if you wish to apply to the School or if you wish to apply for financial aid, you can do so via linked third-party services that will share your application and financial information with us.  Please note that such third parties have their own privacy policies that apply to the information that they collect from you.

We may also collect technical information about your use of our Site, such as your Internet domain and IP address, type of browser and operating system, and the date and time of your visit. We may use the personal and technical information that we collect for any lawful purpose. These purposes include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • To provide the School’s services, including to process applications for admission and financial aid, create student and parent directories, and register you or your child for School programs and services;
  • To respond to your inquiries; 
  • To fundraise and process financial donations;
  • To communicate with website visitors, students, parents, applicants, alumni, and others;
  • For business purposes, such as analytics, research, advertising and marketing, payment processing, and operational purposes;
  • To maintain, operate, customize, and improve our Site; 
  • To comply with law enforcement and maintain the security of our Site and the School;
  • As otherwise disclosed at the time of collection or use; and/or
  • With your consent (on behalf of yourself or as a student’s parent/guardian).
Information Sharing 

We may share the personal information that we have collected with other parties including, to the extent permitted by law:

  • To parents/guardians of a student;
  • To our teachers and other employees of the School;
  • At your direction or request, such as providing student information to third parties related to standardized testing, transfers to a new school, in connection with financial aid applications and administration, or applications for higher education; 
  • With accreditation, oversight, and research authorities;
  • With other members of our School community such as through the publication of student and parent directories; 
  • To volunteers, contractors, consultants, and other third-party service providers that we use to support our School and provide services including fundraising, advertising and marketing services;
  • As part of a sale, merger or acquisition, or other transfer of all or part of our assets including as part of a bankruptcy proceeding; 
  • Pursuant to a subpoena, court order, or other legal process or as otherwise required or requested by law, regulation, or government authority programs, or to protect our rights or the rights or safety of third parties including in connection with a health or safety emergency and in connection with disciplinary proceedings; or
  • With your consent (on behalf of yourself or as a student’s parent/guardian) or as otherwise disclosed at the time of data collection or sharing. 

Where required by law, we will obtain the student’s and/or parent or guardian’s consent prior to sharing personal information.  We may share technical information, as well as any other information that has been de-identified or aggregated so that it does not identify you personally, without restriction.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser that allows the Site to “remember” your preferences (such as calendar settings and site bookmarks) on the Site from visit to visit, or to maintain your “logged in” status when visiting protected areas. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personal information while on our Site. Your Web browser may have settings allowing you to reject cookies, or selectively accept cookies, or delete cookies previously accepted. Analytics

To maintain the safety of your personal information, we implement a variety of reasonable security measures when you enter, submit, or access your information. 

Public and Non-secured Communications

Posts to discussion forums, discussion boards, comments to blogs, and Alumni Class Notes are viewable by other users. When these areas are not in a password-protected area, they may be viewable by the general public. Please be aware of this when posting personal information in these areas.

Google Functionality

This Site uses the Google Drive API to list a user’s Google Drive contents in a password protected portal.  Google Drive files can be copied onto the web server during this process.

Your Choices

To opt out of our e-mail marketing or to unsubscribe from our newsletters, you can contact us using the information in the “Contact Information” section below, or you can use the link provided at the bottom of each marketing message or newsletter.  You will continue to receive communications related to our transaction(s) and relationship with you. If you would like to update your mailing information or want your name and address removed from our direct mailing list, you can use the instructions in the next section or you can contact us using the information in the “Contact Information” section below.

Updating Your Information

You may request to review, change, or update your personal information, or the personal information of a student of whom you are the parent/guardian, by emailing websupport@chds.org.
