CHDS 2nd Graders delivered a record number of lunches as part of our Wednesday Extra Lunch program!
THANK YOU CHDS families for your great "extra lunch" response this week. As part of their Capitol Hill study, 2nd Graders helped deliver 101 lunches plus groceries on April 10!
Second Graders are learning how programs such as the CHDS Extra Lunch collection are one way that individuals and communities work directly to address hunger in this neighborhood, and they are grappling with the issue of how to solve community needs on a broader scale. Prior to their visit, 2nd Graders handed out lunch bags and Extra Lunch program descriptions to other classes to encourage families to donate extra lunches every Wednesday.
The class was humbled to hear from Vern, who single-handedly distributes these lunches through Progress for Christ Baptist Church, and how she started volunteering her time in this way. Students were inspired by her dedication to neighbors in need.
The School's weekly Extra Lunch collection continues through Wednesday, June 12. Please watch for details about the Summer Gap Food Drive to keep the Progress for Christ Church food bank supplied through the summer months.
